Programme Overview

Counselling Skills and Human Development

The Diploma in Guidance and Counselling programme is designed to equip graduates with counselling skills and theories that can be applied in daily life, while fostering an understanding of social responsibilities within the helping profession. Students are trained to plan, manage, and implement activities related to guidance and counselling, while mastering relevant techniques and approaches to address various individual and group issues.

This programme provides in-depth knowledge on the application of counselling principles in real-life situations, as well as foundational helping skills focused on problem-solving. The approaches applied are logical, creative, and analytical, enabling graduates to address issues holistically and effectively. In addition, the programme nurtures effective communication skills, which are essential in helping individuals communicate clearly and empathetically.

Students are also encouraged to be responsive and adaptive to changes within society and diverse counselling contexts, while developing the ability to pursue continuous self-learning in order to enhance the quality of counselling services provided.

Entry Requirements

Pass SPM/SPMV with at least three (3) credits; or

Pass STPM or equivalent with at least Grade C (NGMP 2.0) in one (1) subject and a pass in Mathematics and Science at SPM level; or

Other qualifications recognised as equivalent by the Government of Malaysia.
